Beginning News and Sounds

Today’s news involves sound. Can a secondary sound diminish the obtrusiveness of a primary sound? For example, you accidentally slam a door. Does shouting, “Oh No!” cause the initial door slamming sound to be of lesser volume? I think it does. Future news/blog posts will elucidate.
